Moby Dick’s Restaurant – Level I Verified Green Businesses

At Moby Dick’s Restaurant we have always been concerned with environmental issues. We live in one of the most beautiful areas on the Cape. Keeping it that way has always been a priority and we have incorporated environmental responsibility into our business plan. Going “green” helps us to protect the Cape’s natural environment. By reviewing our business through the green workshops and implementing new procedures we are happy to announce that Moby Dick’s restaurant has been certified a Level 1 Green Business.

Cape & Islands Green is a partnership with the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, the Cape Cod Community Development Parnership and local chambers of commerce. They offer verification workshops for businesses of all sizes that want to preserve the environment.

Moby Dick’s is going Green

Moby was a White Whale but he’s Green too!

What we are doing to preserve and protect our town, our Cape, and our planet…

We recycle all of our:

  1. Cardboard
  2. Glass (ie beer and wine bottles)
  3. Plastic
  4. Aluminum (ie beer cans)

All of our cleaning products are environmentally sensitive including:

  • Tablecleaner, De-greaser, Floor cleaner, Bathroom cleaner, Food service sanitizer, Dish soap & Hand Soap

All of our disposables are made from recycled material

We recycle all of our frying oil with Baker Commodities. They have been one of the nation’s leading providers of rendering and grease removal services. Baker Commodities is a completely “green” company, recycling animal by-products and kitchen waste into valuable products that can be used to feed livestock, power vehicles, and act as a base for everyday items.

We have replaced our propane gas hot water tank with a Renni tankless hot water heater. Conventional water tanks heat and store hot water around the clock. Because of this we were heating and re-heating water, constantly losing energy. A tankless water heater only comes on when you start to use hot water, and immediately shuts off when you are done, so we are not wasting energy when we do not need hot water.

Tankless water heaters have much more effective heat exchanger and burner systems than conventional tanks. This allows us to utilize a much higher percentage of our energy dollar rather than wasting it.

Moby Dick’s Gives Back

At Moby Dick’s we never forget that our local community has helped us be successful over the last 26 years. Because of the great support of our community we support many local groups and organizations.

Every year we donate a portion of our total sales from one week in the spring to the Wellfleet elementary school to help fund field trips and other events for the students.

What is the PMC? The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, an annual bike-a-thon that rolls through Wellfleet every august, and is a pioneer in the athletic fundraising industry and today raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country. In 2008, the PMC raised $35 million dollars, and, since 1980, it has raised more than $240 million dollars for cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.

The PMC is a model of fundraising efficiency. In 2008, the PMC donated 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause.

The PMC generates half of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and it is Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. Over 230,000 individual contributions were made in last year’s fundraising campaign. This year’s goal is to raise $36 million.

We ask for your help in sponsoring this great cause by making your own donation to our team to help them reach their 2011 fundraising goal of  $20,000.00 dollars

The Moby Dick’s Sponsored PMC team calls themselves Whitecrest Express  and  is lead by  past Moby Dick’s employee Andrew Danziger.
